Shai Cahana

Hi! I'm an engineer and physicist with BSc & MSc from HUJI. I also learned practical hands-on machine learning at the Google-Reichman AI program. These days I do clinical data science at Maccabi Dent, analyzing health datasets and turning them into published research papers. Before that I worked in Deep Vision Systems, contributing to real-world ML projects.

Experience

2025–present

Data Analyst & Research Coordinator

Maccabi Dent

Extract and process large-scale clinical data from electronic health records, building SQL pipelines and running the statistical analysis in Python that research conclusions rest on.

Apply survival analysis — Kaplan–Meier, Cox proportional hazards and GEE models — to evaluate clinical outcomes across cohorts of tens of thousands of patients.

Alongside the research, I manage ethics committee approvals and data security protocols, and support the Quality Control division with extractions and audits of medical billing records.

2025

Data Scientist

Deep Vision Systems

Read and implemented relevant research papers, exploring ways to improve computer vision and deep learning techniques.

Designed and implemented synthetic data collection scenes using Blender, simulating diverse environments to train and validate machine learning models.

In an additional project, AILight, I conducted user research and tracking, analyzing behavior patterns and engagement metrics.

2024

AI and Deep Learning Development

Google Reichman Tech School

Advanced course covering AI algorithms and techniques, with practical applications in data analysis and machine learning.

2020–2024

MSc Applied Physics

Hebrew University, Jerusalem

Researched morphogenesis of leaf tissue as active matter using stereoscopy and data analysis to explore the stress-relaxation in growing tissue.

Worked on the integration of spintronics and colloidal quantum dots into a single device.

2017–2018

Security Engineer

Wireless Connectivity Solutions, Intel

Automated vulnerability tests for Devices Under Test (DUTs) & contributed to security validation and penetration testing using Python in the Kali Linux environment.

2015–2019

BSc Electrical and computer engineering

Hebrew University, Jerusalem

Majored in optoelectronics. Final project involved constructing an electrical measuring system for spin polarization efficiency of materials. Relavant courses: Algorithms, Probabilty and Application, Linear Algebra, Digital Signal Processing, Data Structures, Computer Vision.
